What makes Dex different
Every credential type has a different level of structure. Here is how they compare on five practical points.
| Criteria | DEX | Degree | Other Certificate | Resume or Profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost to check | Free for anyone | School may charge | Depends on the provider | Employer reads it |
| Time to check | Type the code, see it now | Wait for school records | Look up on the website | They read through it |
| Who owns it | You, with your code | The school keeps it | The provider keeps it | You wrote it |
| How it stays current | You take the test again | It does not change | Provider sets the rules | You update it |
| Works with a licence | Stands beside it | Often part of it | Depends on the field | Not on its own |
DEX certifies your readiness to perform at a defined scope of responsibility. It does not certify industry knowledge or job-specific skills. It certifies that you can operate effectively at a given level, in a given domain, based on an assessed evaluation.
No. DEX is a certification institution, not a training provider. There are no classes to attend. There is a study guide you can use to prepare, but the credential itself comes from passing an assessment, not from completing a course.
The assessment is reviewed by an outside body, not by DEX alone. This separation is what makes the credential verifiable. DEX issues the record. The reviewing body confirms the result is sound.
Yes. Every DEX credential is listed in a public registry. Any employer can confirm the credential band, domain, and status by entering the credential code. No login is required. No fee is required.
Members save $99 on any assessment at any level. Membership is $89 per year and also includes the study guide at no additional cost. The savings apply each time you certify or recertify.
DEX certifications are valid for 12 months. Renewal is through a new assessment at the same or higher level. It is not a renewal fee. It is a reassessment, which means the credential reflects your current readiness.
