Credential Renewal

Keep Your DEX Credential Current

DEX credentials must be renewed every 12 months to remain valid. Renewal is assessment-based and requires no PDU logs, continuing education credits, or activity tracking.

How Credential Renewal Works

DEX credentials are valid for 12 months from the date of the most recent successful assessment or renewal. When this period ends, the credential expires.

Renewal is assessment-based. There are no PDU logs to maintain, no activity tracking, and no continuing education credits required.

The renewal assessment confirms minimum demonstrated readiness at the certification level. It reflects current capability, not accumulated hours or past activity.

The renewal assessment follows the same format and standard as the initial certification assessment. Questions differ between attempts, drawing from the full assessment inventory.

Why Assessment-Based Renewal Matters

Some credential systems use activity logs, PDU credits, or course completion records to track renewal eligibility. These systems record inputs, not demonstrated capability.

Assessment-based renewal produces a different kind of signal. The renewed credential reflects what the holder can demonstrate, not what they have recorded. This calls for professional judgement from employers and verifiers who compare credentials.

For credential holders, assessment-based renewal means the credential confirms current readiness. It is not a record of past activity.

For verifiers, the credential reflects demonstrated capability at a defined level. That capability was verified at the time of the most recent renewal.

How to Prepare for Renewal

DEX does not provide training courses. No specific preparation programme is endorsed by DEX. Candidates may use any resources they find useful.

Preparation for the renewal assessment typically involves reviewing the assessment framework for the relevant certification level. The DEX Study Guide is a structured preparation resource for this purpose. Candidates may also draw on professional experience and any resources of their own choosing.
