Education

Domain: Education

What the Education Domain Covers

Education covers all types of teaching and learning work. This includes K-12 schools, colleges, universities, training centres, and online learning. It also covers people who work in school leadership, student support, curriculum design, and learning technology.

Education is one of the largest employment sectors. It spans public schools, private schools, nonprofit groups, and commercial learning companies.

Who This Domain Is For

The Education domain is for people who work in or plan to enter the education sector. This includes:

  • Teachers, tutors, and instructors at any level.
  • School and college leaders.
  • Student support staff and counsellors.
  • Curriculum designers and assessment writers.
  • Learning technology professionals.
  • Corporate trainers and professional development staff.
  • People moving into education from another field.

If your work involves helping people learn, this domain fits you.

What the Education Sector Looks Like

In Canada, each province runs its own school system. Each province sets its own rules, curricula, and funding models. Post-secondary education includes universities, colleges, and trade schools. Each has its own standards.

The education workforce is large and varied. It includes teachers, school leaders, support staff, counsellors, tech specialists, and many others.

Most education jobs are in the public sector. But private schools, tutoring companies, and online learning firms are growing.

The 13 Bands in Education

DEX offers 13 bands across four certification levels. Each band describes a scope of work. All 13 are available in the Education domain.

DEX-A has one band:

  • Associate Education -- Ready to start work and contribute under guidance.

DEX-P has four bands:

  • Specialist Education -- Works on their own within a defined area.
  • Practitioner Education -- A go-to person in their field. Handles complex work.
  • Lead Expert Education -- Shapes how work is done. Guides teams without managing people.
  • Strategist Education -- Thinks in systems. Shapes strategy. Top of the non-management track.

DEX-M has four bands:

  • Team Leader Education -- Leads a single team.
  • Group Manager Education -- Leads multiple teams or a department.
  • Area Director Education -- Manages managers across functions.
  • Division Head Education -- Leads at corporate-wide scope. Top of the management track.

DEX-PF has four bands:

  • National Education -- Leads across an entire country.
  • Cross-Border Education -- Leads across more than one country.
  • Global Education -- Leads worldwide operations. The highest band in the system.

A person does not need to start at the bottom. They may attempt the band that matches their current readiness.

What Certification in Education Means

A DEX credential in Education tells employers what a person has been assessed as ready to do. It describes a scope of work, not a body of knowledge.

The credential is portable. It does not expire when a person changes jobs, moves to a new city, or shifts into a different part of the sector. It stays valid for 24 months from the date the person passes.

Every DEX-certified holder appears in a public registry. Any employer can look up a holder by name. They can see the holder's level, band, domain, and current status. No login is needed. No fee is charged.

How the Assessment Works

Each assessment has 90 questions. The time limit is 90 minutes. Assessments are online and proctored.

Results are given right away. If a person does not pass, they may retake the assessment. Retakes are charged at 50% of the standard assessment fee.

Why Education Matters as a Domain

Education is where people grow. Schools, colleges, and training centres shape how communities develop. The people who run these systems need strong skills in planning, communication, and leadership.

DEX certification in Education gives a clear signal of readiness. It shows what scope of work a person can handle. It works whether the person is a classroom teacher, a curriculum designer, or a school district leader.

The credential does not replace a teaching licence or other professional registration. It adds a layer that those credentials were not built to provide: a structured, level-based signal of professional readiness.

Certification and membership are separate. A person can certify without being a member. A member who has not passed an assessment is not a certified holder.
